Is your company at risk?

The following five steps will give a good indication of your level of vulnerability, and provide some quick wins in the deployment of an effective protection strategy.

Step 1:

• Do not take at face value from either your IT Department or IT Provider that you are protected
• Test the areas where protection systems are meant to be deployed.

Step 2:

• Conduct an HR review of your Company Policies with regards to internet and email usage.
• Is there a clearly defined policy covering as a minimum the following points:- 

      - Data Protection Policy

      - Information Security Policy

      - Acceptable Use Policy

      - Monitoring Policy

      - Email Policy

      - Internet Policy

      - Communications Policy

      - Staff Handbook

      - Employment Contracts

      - Information Security-Related

      - Third Party Contract Terms and Conditions of Computer Usage

• Is the policy up to date? 

Step 3:

• Is IT Security a fixed agenda item on board or senior management meetings?
• Is the integrity and delivery of the companies systems seen as a high priority visible to all senior management?
• Do you have disaster recovery strategies in place?

Step 4:

• Is an integrated security policy for the organisation deployed, and does the organisation utilise specialist assistance that focuses on this sector?

Step 5:

• Is there a continuous review process in place to check all of the above?
